The Indian squad has already started assembling in the US as excitement around the T20 World Cup approaches its crescendo and experts continue to discuss the formation of India’s 15-member squad led by Rohit Sharma — one of the hot favourites to go all the way.
The showpiece ICC tournament in the shortest format will be co-hosted by the US and West Indies from June 2 to 29.

Among the decisions taken by the BCCI selectors while picking the squad was keeping top-order batsman Shubman Gill among the four travelling-reserves, something which former England captain Eoin Morgan doesn’t concur with.
Talking on a Sky Sports podcast, accompanied by fellow ex-England capatains Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain, Morgan said he would have had Gill as part of the squad instead of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“The only decision I probably would have had differently, if I were selecting the squad, I would have Shubman Gill (in the 15) over Yashasvi Jaiswal,” said Morgan.

Jaiswal has been one of the most talented batsmen to have bursted onto the international scene, having played for India in Tests and T20Is ever since his international debut in the first Test on the West Indies tour last year.
The prolific start to his international career has seen the left-handed batsman score 1028 runs in 16 innings across 9 Tests at a staggering average of 68.53, including 3 centuries and 4 fifties. In T20Is, he has scored 502 runs in 16 innings at an average of 33.46 and strike rate of 161.93, including 1 century and 4 fifties.

“It is a big call, but I (have) played alongside Shubman Gill (at Kolkata Knight Riders). I know how he thinks, I know how he works; and for me he is a future leader with that side,” said Morgan.

Gill has also been highly talked about in international circuit since his debut for India in an ODI on the New Zealand tour in 2019. He has since featured in all formats for India and has so far played 25 Tests, 44 ODIs and 14 T20Is and has scored a century in each format.
His tally of runs in Tests stands at 1492 runs (4 centuries, 6 fifties), in ODIs 2271 runs (6 centuries, 13 fifites), in T20Is 335 runs (1 century, 1 fifty).
“I think in big moments in World Cups, the more leaders the better. Even if he (Gill) is sitting on the sidelines, you still need inspiration from here and everywhere, you need that sense of positivity,” Morgan added.
